Update on Dubai runway closures - 18 MAR 2019

Boeing has agreed to defer the delivery of Comair’s second B737 MAX8 aircraft, following the fatal crash of Ethiopian Airlines’ flight ET302 on Sunday, March 9.

Comair voluntarily withdrew the first of its 737 MAX 8s from its schedule on Monday, March 11, only a few days after the aircraft had been delivered.

Since the crash, airlines and countries around the world have pulled the aircraft from service. On March 13, Boeing recommended that the global fleet of the aircraft be suspended. In a statement, Boeing said: “…after consultation with the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and aviation authorities and its customers around the world, Boeing has determined -- out of an abundance of caution and in order to reassure the flying public of the aircraft’s safety -- to recommend to the FAA the temporary suspension of operations of the entire global fleet of 371 737 MAX aircraft.”
