Airberlin to stop flying this month - 11 Oct 2017

Bankrupt airline, airberlin, will stop flying on October 28 amid proceedings to settle with creditors and distribute assets to buyers.

The airline declared bankruptcy in August following years of losses and the decision of its biggest shareholder, Etihad, to cease financing.

However, airberlin’s subsidiaries, Niki and LG Walter, are not insolvent and flights will therefore continue. Airberlin is in talks with Lufthansa and easyJet about selling parts of its business.

According to a letter to workers from airberlin’s two top executives, the airline is encouraging its roughly 8 600 employees to seek jobs elsewhere as the company’s liquidation efforts proceed.
